Victor Tallarico was a classical musician who lead the Vic Tallarico Orchestra and taught music at a high school. He probably was less than pleased when young Stephen began playing in rock bands. He may have felt that the piano lessons had been wasted. Stephen changed his name to Steven Tyler. Steven joined Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Ray Tabano and began playing in Boston. They named their band Aerosmith. You might have heard of them.
Tyler and Perry earned another name, the "Toxic Twins," for their heavy drug use. The drug use fueled personality clashes that caused Perry to leave the group in 1979. Tyler continued to abuse himself with drugs, which nearly destroyed the band as well. It was an intervention by the band in 1986 that sent Tyler to rehab. Other band members followed Tyler's example and also sought treatment for their own substance abuse problems. The band has been clean since that time. Steven Tyler has said, "Sex, drugs, and rock n roll . . . take out the drugs and you've got more time for the other two."
Tyler has been married twice. He is the father of four children, three daughters, and one son with three different women. His first daughter is the actress, Liv Tyler who had a son in 2004. Yes, the "Demon of Screamin'" is a grandfather. Tyler and Aerosmith performed vocally in the 2004 movie, "Polar Express" as rocking elves. How many kids can watch a movie with an animated rocking elf that looks like grandpa?
