Still Dreamin' On

Aerosmith's first album, "Aerosmith," came out in 1973. If you have one of the originally released albums of "Aerosmith," you have a collector's item. The first album cover showed the band among clouds the in blue sky, but it had to be recalled because there was a mistake in one of the song titles listed on the back of the album. The song "Walkin' the Dog" was listed as "Walkin' the Dig," oops. But the best thing about the first album was Steven Tyler's rock ballad, "Dream On." This iconic Aerosmith song was the first hit single for the band. It did even better on the charts when re-released in 1976 than it did in 1973.

"Dream On" is on the list of the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame's of 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. Rolling Stone Magazine has it listed as #172 on their list of 500 greatest songs of all time. The song appears on most of Aerosmith's greatest hit collections and live compilation projects. It is considered to be the group's signature song by many, although "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way" also have their supporters for that role.

The song has almost taken on a life of its own. It has been covered by many recording artists including Eminem. ESPN SportsCenter used the song in a video montage of important sports moments in their "Images of the Century" in the days immediately preceding January 2000 at the turn of the millennium. Even Disney used the song as the closing theme of their movie, "Miracle." Boston loves their Bad Boys, and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry rocked with the Boston Pops Orchestra in a Fourth of July spectacular in 2006 with a live performance of "Dream On." Steven Tyler is still, "Singin' it for the years."
