Steve Tyler is famous for his fantastic lips and his hard rock yowling as lead singer of Aerosmith. While his lips might not be quite as luscious as Mick Jagger's, by rock and roll standards they're still pretty damn good. If you can't quite grasp the importance of a man's lips on his future rock and roll success, just think of it this way. Would Aerosmith's best known music videos like Crazy and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) have been nearly as popular if he'd been a thin-lipped dork with scraggly hair singing about easy women and transvestites. With world-class smackers, they became Aerosmith, one of the biggest bands in the known universe. Tyler grew up around New York City, born in 1948. He was later expelled from High School for being a general menace to upright society, working a number of odd jobs while trying to break in to the music business playing for blues and rock bands in the area. He met guitarist Joe Perry in 1969, and they hit it off immediately, and soon started up Aerosmith together. He likes to bring in blues vocal techniques like scat to toss some southern spice into his songs, as well as his powerful falsetto that sounds like the an extraordinarily talented cat during mating season. He's been known for his love of alcohol, heroin, uppers, sex and rock and roll costume accessories like his trademark scarves. Since 1986, their band management publicly put their members through rehab, and they've supposedly been clean since. |
