The man behind many of Aerosmith’s popular songs is Tom Hamilton. Hamilton is the bassist for Aerosmith, but he is also quite gifted when it comes to writing tunes. Not only is Hamilton the towering (at six feet tall) musician that likes to make press laugh while giving interviews, he is also the one band member that takes a great amount of pride in having a hand in writing nearly every song. Hamilton co-wrote “Sweet Emotion,” “Janie’s Got a Gun,” and “Jaded” amongst many other tunes, and he also plays the rhythm guitar in “Sick as a Dog.” Hamilton has really been out of the spotlight as far as the band is concerned, though he was the last to give up his drug habit (he smoked marijuana until Permanent Vacation was released). Hamilton married Terry Cohen during they year 1975, and the two have two children from their healthy marriage. During 2006, Hamilton announced to his band, and to his public, that he was diagnosed with throat cancer. His cancer would cause Hamilton to miss the Route of All Evil Tour (the first tour that he ever missed), though he was able to lick the disease and he is now cancer free. Due to his great stage presence and sense of humor, Hamilton has been offered spots in numerous acting schools across the nation. Other than being the real voice of Aerosmith (thanks to his wit and charm), Hamilton’s story is a simple one. Tom Hamilton is just a man that enjoys playing the guitar, spending time with his family, remaining healthy, and always willing to crack a smile. In fact, many fans adore Hamilton for his easy going ways and his lax attitude that really sets him apart from all other rockers. |
