What can be said about a musician that has had over two hundred videos, biographies, and articles written about him? From the start, Stephen Tyler had music in his veins that just wouldn’t quit. Born to a father that was a classical musician in New York on March 26, 1948, Tyler has been part of the American music scene for more than a decade now. From his humble beginnings in Yonkers to his success as an American icon, Tyler has really done it all. Tyler’s life has always been one full of drug and alcohol abuse (though the singer is now sober). From the time he was in high school, Tyler had been caught (and expelled) using drugs. Once Tyler was kicked out of Roosevelt high school for drug use, he spend many years working odd jobs including some work at a local bakery. Around the year 1969, Tyler met up with a guitarist named Joe Perry from Sunapee, New Hampshire. Perry was itching to form a rock band (as most people during that time were), and the two instantly hit it off. One year later, they met with Tom Hamilton, and eventually the three added Tyler’s childhood friend Ray Tabano to the group (though Tabano would later by replaced by Brad Whitford). Finally, the group snatched up drummer Joey Kramer and set off to tour the Boston circuit. The year 1972 proved to be highly successful for the group as they released Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic, Rocks, and Draw the Line (all platinum albums). Though success was sweet, Tyler just couldn’t stay away from various substances, which earned him (along with Perry) the nickname “Toxic Twins.” As the band split up and reunited during the 1980s, Tyler and all his band mates agreed to enter into rehab where they all “got clean,” and have been this way since the early 1980s. Today, Stephen Tyler has branched out into selling his own line of motorcycles, he’s had a few film parts, and he is currently working on another upcoming Aerosmith album. |
